Relax. This is the last of five videos I’ve made around the user experience design. So, once I’ve spoken about what, why, how and how to, I consider this is the time to be conscious. This is why I’m going to concentrate in ten things only, maybe the most valuable I’ve treated along the way. In case of doubt after the video, I encourage you to take your favorite soda and watch the resto of the quality videos about UX.
Which are these ten points? Let me talk then about lies, the ones you should never believe about User Experience.
The UX is the user interface design. Lie. It is the complete system. Please, beware of getting confused. A nice and colored screen is very important, but it is not enough.
The UX is a step in the process. Error. It is the entire process. People, even computer engineers, believe UX is an integrated task within the software development projects. Be careful with this, because you’ll arrive always late.
The UX is just technology. Well, no. It’s behavior. What to use is quite important, but maybe how to use is the key.
The UX is only usability. Okay. It could be true. But not this time. UX is value. The purpose of user experience design is to generate a lasting value users can enjoy and sellers can capture.
The UX is only the user. Not true at all. It is the context. In despite we seem to be annoying talking about user-centered design, User Experience doesn’t mean we should to isolate user from its environment. The experience context can be as important as the user behavior.
The UX is expensive. No way. It is flexible. I invite everyone who says design seems expensive to try to do it without him. If you don’t design User Experience for your product or service, most probably you won’t sell too much. That’s really an expensive decision.
The UX is easy. It would be great. But not true. UX is not a complicated process but is a balance of actions. It is not about filling out a questionnaire. It's something more. It is a series of coordinated works can provide the necessary knowledge to be confident in your product or service design process.
The UX is the role of a person or a department. Never. It is a culture. Take care of user and experience is something should be integrated into the company culture and values, especially in those that wants to be successful today.
The UX is a single discipline. Of course not. We've seen it in the videos. It's collaboration. The UX is a compendium of disciplines. Each one plays a relevant role once we decide to define the best possible user experience. And there are a lot, some oriented to the context, others to users, information and so on.
The UX is an alternative. No longer. Now it's a way to survive. The new digital companies carry the user experience design in the DNA. For them UX is like breathing. For those who must compete in the same market is the only option to have any chance to survive over time.
I hope these ten points can be useful to you. And I would desire you can put them into practice soon. Because if you don’t, we will continue forced to use TV remote controls like these. Has anyone ever used more than four buttons? Moreover, does anyone know why we need the other thousand five hundred?
